Those of you who know me know that I have been a proponent of forest bathing for years. Forest bathing, or spending time in nature, can help us achieve greater mindfulness and calm.

But trees aren’t just good for our well-being, they are critical to Earth’s well-being as well.

Trees remove carbon dioxide from the air and store it in the soil. In turn, they release oxygen into the air. And they do so, so much more. They are an essential link in our entire ecosystem. They provide food and shelter for birds and wildlife, prevent soil erosion that can lead to devastating flooding, offer cooling shade amid rising temperatures, and serve as natural water filters.

Earth Day is Monday, April 24. Celebrate Mother Earth by spending some time in nature—and think about how you can play a part in supporting a healthy planet.
